Actress. A longtime star of the German stage and screen she shall probably remembered for her lead role in 1982’s “Veronika Voss”. Raised in Hoya she broke into show business in 1962 at Landshut’s South Bavarian City Theatre then over the next years was to refine her craft in the increasingly important venues of such cities as Biel, Wuppertal, and Berlin. Along the way Rosel made a name for herself playing the lead of Ibsen’s “Hedda Gabler” and indeed earned “Theatre Today” magazine’s 1976 Actress of the Year Award for the role. She made her television bow with 1970’s “The Pot” and was first seen on the silver screen in the 1973 “The Tenderness of Wolves”, on the set of which she met director Rainer Fassbinder. Rosel stayed busy thru the 1970s earning praise for television movie versions of Chekhov’s “The Seagull” (1975) and of “Hedda Gabler” (1978) and in 1977 even portraying a crocodile in the children’s film “The Crocodiles”. Fassbinder was to give her a small role in his 1981 “Lola” then in 1982 was to cast her in the lead of his black-and-white feature “Veronika Voss”, a loose telling of the tragic tale of the life and death of actress Sybille Schmitz which earned a Golden Bear Award at the Berlin Film Festival. Rosel remained active on both the large and small screens as well as in the theatre for the remainder of her life and in 1999 received the Bavarian Order of Merit. Diagnosed with terminal cancer in the summer of 2011 she was forced to leave her role as a nun on the television series “For Heaven’s Sake”. At her death a number of her movies were available on DVD.
