Actress. Comfortable in both leading and secondary roles, she was often cast as hardened females or as she once stated “bad girls”. Her association with the entertainment industry began when she became a member of a theater group following her high school years. This experience led to an abundance of parts on radio in soap operas and other dramas. She launched her career in Hollywood after signing a contract with MGM and marked her film debut with “Main Street After Dark” (1945). After a minor part in “The Postman Always Rings Twice” (1946), she yielded what perhaps may be her most accomplished performance as Adrienne Fromsett (opposite Robert Montgomery) in the Raymond Chandler based picture “Lady in the Lake” (1947). Further noteworthy films include “The Set-Up” (1949), “Tension” (1949), “The Blue Veil” (1951) and “A Bullet for Joey” (1955). Television became an important aspect of her career and she would go on to have featured roles in the programs “Cimarron City” (1958 to 1959) and “Our Man Higgins” (1962 to 1963). She may be best remembered by TV audiences for playing Nurse Wilcox in the series “Medical Center” (1975 to 1976). Additionally, she had accumulated scores of guest roles in such programs as “Dr. Kildare”, “Hawaii Five-O” and “Murder, She Wrote”. She died of complications from a stroke in addition to suffering from congestive heart failure. She died eight days shy of her 96th birthday.
