Elaine Stewart (Elaine Stewart)

Elaine Stewart

Actress, Model. Born Elsy Steinberg, the daughter of a New Jersey policeman, she worked as an usherette and cashier before winning the opportunity over hundreds of models to appear in a layout for See Magazine and receiving the title of Miss See in 1952. She adorned pages of the publications Life Magazine and Playboy, while launching her Hollywood career with a uncredited part in the Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis vehicle “Sailors Beware” (1952). After signing with MGM, she found roles of substance in the pictures “The Bad and the Beautiful” (1952), “Young Bess” (1953) and perhaps her most memorable part in “Brigadoon” (1954), later with Universal Pictures “The Tattered Dress” (1957) and “Night Passage” (1957). After her marriage to actor Bill Carter ended in divorce, she married TV game show producer Merrill Heatter in 1964 and retired from acting to raise her family. During the 1970s, she returned to the entertainment arena on the game shows “Las Vegas Gambit” (1972 to 1976) and “The New High Rollers” (1974 to 1975). (bio by: C.S.)
