Singer, Entertainer. The daughter of Hortense Scheff Yarger, a prima donna with the Imperial Opera in Vienna, she made her debut at  eight years old singing Juliet in  “Romeo and Juliet” with the Frankfurt Opera company. She appeared with several opera companies in Germany, she spent three years with the Metropolitan Opera in New York. She shifted her career to  musical comedy. Victor Herbert wrote  “Mlle Modiste,” for her, and contained what became her signature song, “Kiss Me Again.” She later appeared in vaudeville and  in Billy Rose’s show at the 1939 New York World’s Fair.  She made numerous appearances as herself on “Toast of the Town’, and her last television appearance was on “This Is Your Life.” (bio by: Ginny M)
