Angharad Rees

Actress. Born in London to a father who was a well-respected Welsh psychiatrist, she moved with her family to their place of origin in Cardiff. After coming to the realization the she wished to pursue a career in entertainment, she joined the West Cliff Theatre in England and worked as a stage manager, in addition to a performer. She would establish herself as a well-versed player of Shakespearean productions on the London scene. Angharad initiated her association with British TV during the late 1960s and lent her pretty physique to roles in the programs “The Wednesday Play”, “The Avengers” and “Armchair Theatre” and experienced her breakthrough role in films with a featured part in the Hammer Studio picture “Hands of the Ripper” (1971). This was followed with the Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton vehicle “Under Milk Wood” (1972) and what is perhaps her most identifiable role as Demelza Poldark in the British TV series “Poldark (1975 to 1977). In 1973, she married actor Christopher Cazenove whom she remained with until their divorce in 1994. She had further recurring roles in the series “The Forgotten Story” (1983) and “Close to Home” (1989 to 1990), before focusing on the jewelery designing company which she founded. In 1999, she suffered the agony of loosing her eldest son to an automobile accident and in 2004, she was named Commander of the Order of the British Empire for her contributions to Drama.
