Actor. Born in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Ukraine, he established himself as a leading figure of the flourishing theater and film industry of the Weimar-era in post-war Germany. He appeared in over 50 films over the coarse of his career such as “Nosferatu” (1922), “The Last Fort” (1929), “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” (1939), “Joan of Paris” (1942) and  “For Whom the Bell Tolls” (1943).
