Bernard Gorcey (Bernard Gorcey)
Actor. Born in Russia, he was in his early 20s when he emigrated to America and started performing comedy roles on Broadway in 1922. In 1929, he made his big screen appearance in the role as Isaac Cohen in the film version of the Broadway production of “Abie’s Irish Rose”. He then returned to the theater, but still had success appearing in over 55 features films. He was most noted for his 44 roles with his sons Leo and David Gorcey, in the popular Bowery Boys film series such as “Bowery Champs” (1944), “Docks of New York” (1945), “East Side Kids” (1946), “Bowery Buckaroos” (1947) and “Dig That Uranium” (1955), his last movie. He died in Hollywood, California, at age 59.
