Emma Eames (Emma Eames)
Singer, Actress. Emma Eames was an Opera Soprano. Raised in Portland and Bath Maine, she attended school in Boston, Mass. where she studied with the famous teacher Mathilde Marchesi. In 1889 she debuted at the Paris Opera playing the role of the heroine in “Romeo et Juliet” for many performances. In 1891, she debuted at the Metropolitan Opera in New York playing the same role and where she would have the most acclaim. She made appearances at the Royal Opera House in London and toured in concerts around the USA, finally retiring from the business in 1916. In 1929 Emma Eames wrote an autobiography “Some Memories and Reflections.” Seven years later, in 1936, she relocated to New York where she became a renowned vocal instructor. Emma Eames was married twice but had no children.
