Barbara Murray

Actress. A versatile performer, she is remembered for her long career on the British stage and screen. The child of a theatrical family, she was raised within the show business milieu, started dancing in her parents’ act around age six, and during World War II was hidden in Wales. After the War, she worked with her family and as a model before being signed by the J. Arthur Rank organization and sent to its famous Charm School. Barbara made her silver screen bow with a small role in 1947’s “Anna Karenina” and went on to numerous appearances, earning particular notice in the 1949 “Passport to Pimlico”, “Meet Mr. Lucifer” (1953), and 1963’s “The Punch and Judy Man”. She was first seen on the small screen as young Scrooge’s girlfriend in a 1950 presentation of Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” and over the years earned countless credits including “The Palisiers”, “The Plane Makers”, “The Power Game”, “Doctor Who”, and 1980’s “The Curse of King Tut’s Tomb”. With the passage of time she kept her good looks and was well received as Lady Brett in the late 1980s ITV series “The Bretts”. In the 1990s Barbara moved to Spain where she lived her remaining years and took one final screen bow in 1999’s “The Harpist”. She died of the complications of a fall suffered at her home.
