Patsy May (Patsy May)
Child Actress. Fondly remembered for her role as ‘Baby Patsy’ in the “Our Gang” comedy film series (1935 to 1940). Born Patsy Doris Dittemore, her mother passed away when she was nineteen days old. Her maternal grandparents took her back to their native state of California and legally adopted her thus changing her name to Patsy Doris May. Her grandmother began taking to her auditions and, at the age of 6 months, she was chosen to play Lee Tracy’s baby ‘Poochie’ in the movie “Carnival”. When she was about 20 months old, Hal Roach signed her to a five year contract to play Spanky’s little sister in “Our Gang”. Other credits include roles in “The Star Maker”, “Arise My Love”, “Dixie Dugan”, and she was one of the Munchkins in “The Wizard of Oz”. Her last known role was as a Goodbody Girl in the 1945 movie “The Great Stagecoach Robbery.” She married at the young age of seventeen and left the world of show business behind. She passed away at the age of 78. (bio by: Whispers From The Grave) Family links: Parents: James Harold Dittemore (1912 – 1963) Gladys Elizabeth May Dittemore (1912 – 1934)
