Actress. Made her stage debut at the age of 20 in Chicago before moving to Broadway, and developing a career on the stage and the cinema. She is best known for playing Cary Grant’s mother in Alfred Hitchcock’s “North by Northwest” (1959) although she was about ten months younger than Grant.
