Frank Coghlan, Jr (Frank Coghlan)
Actor. He appeared in more than one hundred motion pictures beginning as a child during the silent film era. Born in New Haven, Connecticut, he moved with his parents to California at the age of four and was brought to the attention of Cecil B. De Mille who put him under contract. He made his big screen debut in the picture “Daredevil Jack” (1920) and appeared in a series of films throughout the 1920’s under the name “Junior” Coghlan. He played the part of James Cagney’s character as a youth in the 1931 picture “Public Enemy”. He would make the transition from child to adult actor and appear in a string of roles ranging from minor to moderate in such films as “The Little Red Schoolhouse” (1936), “Charlie Chan at the Race Track” (1936), “Gone with the Wind” (1939) and “The Adventures of Captain Marvel” (1941). His film career yielded to his service as a Naval pilot during World War II. Coghlan remained active in the Navy during the post-war years and continued appearing in film until the late-1960’s. In addition, he served as a public relations man with the Los Angeles Zoo and the Port of Los Angeles. In 1992, his autobiography titled “They Still Call Me Junior” was published. (bio by: C.S.)
