Actor. Born Timothy Clark Choate in Dallas, Texas, he earned BA in fine arts at the University of Texas at Austin in 1977. He made his film debut in “The Europeans” opposite Lee Remick two years later. In the early 1980s, he appeared in “Crimes of the Heart” on Broadway. Throughout the 1980s, he appeared in over twenty films and television shows including 1981’s “Ghost Story;” “Tales From the Darkside;” “Highway to Heaven;” and a repeat role in the television series “Newhart.” Through the 1990s, though he appeared in a handful of feature films such as “Soapdish” in 1991 and “Jefferson in Paris” in 1995, most of his work was in television, including what was probably his most memorable portrayal, the pivotal recurring role of Zathrus in the cult series, “Babylon 5,” which ran from 1994 through 1997. Other appearances included 2001’s “Pearl Harbor,” and his final television role in a “Cold Case” episode, “Look Again” in 2003. In September 2004, he was on his way to a rehearsal for a play in Los Angeles when a van failed to yield at an intersection and struck his motorcycle; he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. A public memorial service was held the following October, on what would have been his 50th birthday, at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood attended by his many friends and fans.
