Actor. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he was drawn to entertainment at an early age and formed a comedy act with fellow actor Don Knotts, while serving with the United States Army during World War II. Checco’s break in the industry came, when he co-starred opposite Carol Channing (playing multiple roles) in the Broadway musical “Lend an Ear” (1948 to 1950). He moved to Hollywood during the early 1950s and began a lengthy association with films and TV including a reunion with Don Knotts on “The Andy Griffith Show” in 1962. Among his many film credits include “The Party” (1968), “Bullitt” (1968), “Angel in My Pocket” (1969) and “The World’s Greatest Athlete” (1973).
