Actor. Born in Crab Orchard, Nebraska, he was a popular character actor most noted for playing villains in B-Westerns and other genres. In 1943, he signed an exclusive 10-year contract with Republic Pictures and starred in over 150 films and serials, as one to most recognizable villains to the audiences of the day. His many movie credits included “Six Gun Gospel” (1943), “The Laramie Trial” (1944), “Ghost of Zorro” (1949), “Arizona Manhunt” (1951), “Man Without a Star” (1955), “Texas Across the River” (1966) and “Monte Walsh” (1970). For television, he was a regular on “Gunsmoke”, “Rawhide”, “Bonanza”, “Perry Mason”, “Have Gun Will travel”, “The Adventures of Spin and Marty” and many more.
