Jimmy Aubrey (Jimmy Aubrey)
Actor. Born in England, he is the son of Robert Aubrey, the US born gymnast. He was a member of the Fred Karno traveling variety troupe and other alumni of the Karno group were Charlie Chaplin and Stan Laurel. Jimmy moved to the United States around 1908. An early understudy of Charlie Chaplin, he later achieved leading status during the silents era. His earliest films were the “Heinie and Louie” Starlight Comedies for the Mittendahl Studios in New Jersey which were released through Pathe exchanges. Jimmy was “Heinie” and Walter Kendig portrayed “Louie”. He was a comedian who had his own film series of comedies from 1919 to 1921 in which Oliver Hardy usually appeared as the villain. Jimmy began his “Big V” comedies and was often paired up with Oliver “Babe” Hardy this pair was before his Laurel and Hardy days. Jimmy did some more silent films including a couple with the new comedy team of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. When sound arrived, he was able to adapt to the new medium. He became a familiar face in dozens of B westerns of the 1930s and 1940s. He appeared in 419 films between 1915 and 1953. (bio by: Shock)
