Irene Dailey

Actress. A performer of stage, television and films, she is best known for her role as Nettie Cleary in the 1960s Tony Award-winning Broadway drama “The Subject Was Roses”. She won an Emmy Award in 1979 for her role as Liz Matthews in the daytime soap opera “Another World”. The younger sister of entertainer Dan Dailey, she began her career in vaudeville during the 1930s and made her Broadway debut in the short-lived 1943 production “Nine Girls”. Beginning in the 1950s, she appeared regularly in television on such programs as “Naked City”, “The Defenders”, “The Twilight Zone”, “Dr. Kildare”, “Ben Casey” and “The Nurses”. In addition, she had a recurring role in the soap opera “The Edge of Night”. Among her film credits are “No Way to Treat a Lady” (1968), “Daring Game” (1968) and “Five Easy Pieces” (1970). Her other stage credits include “Lost in Yonkers” (1991 to 1993) and “The Father” (1996). (bio by: C.S.)
