Television Figure, Author. Born Phyllis Nan Primrose-Pechey, she is considered the first ever celebrity television cook, appearing with her monocle clad, henpecked husband Major Johnnie Cradock from the 1950’s to the 1970’s. Known for her harsh and elaborate demeanour her T.V career began in 1955 with her first programme, ‘Fanny’s Kitchen’, which introduced her famous prawn cocktail recipe. Many books, food columns and T.V programmes followed including, ‘Chez Bon Viveur’,’The Cradock’s’, ‘Dinner Party’,’ Fanny Cradock Invites’ and ‘Cradock Cooks for Christmas’. Fanny’s T.V downfall came when she appeared on ‘The Big Time’ in 1976 when she rudely berated cookery competition winner Gwen Troake over her proposed menu for a banquet to be attended by Edward Heath, Earl Mountbatten of Burma and other VIPs. In later years, Fanny turned her hand to novel writing, she wrote several books in the ‘Castle Rising’ series.
