Actress. Real name Betty Ann Chapman. A native of Westerly, Rhode Island, she is probably best remembered for her role as the noncorfomist ‘Janet Matthews’ on the long-running NBC television soap opera, “Another World” from 1964 until she was dropped from the series in 1966 (her character could not have children on the series, and when she herself became pregnant in real life, this caused her to be dismissed from the series). A graduate of the Yale Drama College, Miss Chapman began taking acting lessons under the stage actress Eva Le Gallienne, and eventually went onto work with her at the White Barn Theater. Her other work includes the role of ‘Regina’ in the stage play “Ghosts”, based on the work by Henrik Ibsen, an appearance at the New York Equity Library production of “Lysistrata”, and several television appearances on “The Home Show”, and “The Secret Storm.” She was married to the pianist and conductor Andrew Heath until her death. The two met while serving in the United States Army, eventually having four children together, and then settling in Westport, Connecticut. After retiring from acting to raise her children, Chapman worked as a volunteer for several organizations including Fairfield University, and the Assumption Church and Westport Woman’s Club. On January 21, 1967, while driving down the Connecticut Turnpike she was killed in a car accident. She was buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
